Many clubs seem to be having trouble attracting new members, particularly to play Association Croquet. Several have resorted to Golf Croquet … a great game, but maybe a little too short and a bit boring if that’s the only game that you play.

At Elwood we’ve embraced Ricochet! It’s similar in every way to Association except that you haven’t got to master the “croquet shot” so it can readily be played by anyone … including Golf Croquet players.

At Elwood we don’t wear whites. We wear whatever colour that suits us, and some of us play bearfoot or in thongs.

At Elwood we start games at 10:15 am and 1:00 pm Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturdays. We like people to turn up 10 minutes ahead!

New players welcome. Your first session with us is free.

At Elwood we usually have a drink or a cuppa and a nibble (… and solve the problems of the world) after the arvo game. It’s a lovely environment in Elwood Park with the wonderful views and sea breeze.

Visitors always welcome.

Come along for a free tryout at 10:25 am or 12:55 pm any Tuesday, Thursday, or Saturday.

Croquet is an enjoyable outdoor game that incorporates elements of snooker, billiards, golf and chess all in one game. Variations on the rules allow for croquet to be played as a casual, social outdoor sport or as a strategic, competitive game requiring skill and forward thinking. It’s a fun and challenging sport for all ages.

At the ECC we play the four most popular games.

Association Croquet

This complex traditional game has been around longer than tennis. It’s a balance of skill and strategy a bit like a game of fresh air chess on grass.

Golf Croquet

A shorter game that’s only been around about 15 years that is growing in popularity and frequently played in tournaments. A good simple social and aggressive game where all players stay together on the lawn.

Aussie Croquet

The simple popular garden croquet game that people have played in their backyards for yonks.

Ricochet

The fun new game on the block. Very similar strategy-wise to Association Croquet but is readily understood and played by beginners.

You will not need prior experience as we will provide training and equipment on the lawns. After your first free session you’re entitled to play twice more (paying the same $3 green fee that members pay) before deciding whether to join. Membership is available for $160 per year. 3 months Trial Membership for $50 is also available. Just wear some flat soled shoes and bring along your sense of humour.

We particularly need more younger members who’d like to play weekdays after work, or perhaps on Sundays. Members are encouraged to bring along friends at the $5 mates rate. We have a sensational location with BBQ facilities and a BYO licence.

Should you have any inquiries please contact Ian Davidson on tel. 9534 8786 or Elizabeth Cook on tel. 9885 1029, or email ian.davidson9@bigpond.com.

Email for the Membership brochure.
